CocolicoEach day, one green design.

What Karl Zahn designed is an experiment turned useful. The experimental way given to anybody to apprehend the double nature of artificial lightning. As said the designer on his website: “We can only ’see’ half of what a normal incandescent bulb produces; the rest of its energy is released as seemingly useless heat.”

So he created the Protea lamp, a pendant lamp made in thermo repellent materials. The more the light bulb is on, the hotter it gets, the wider the lamp “opens” and the more light you can get from the lamp.

The only concern that we have is that doesn’t entice people to switch for modern long-life cycle light bulbs. But at least, watching a traditional lamp becomes an entertaining spectacle and can make people become more aware of simple things surrounding them.
