CocolicoEach day, one green design.

Look at it. It’s just a raw laptop, isn’t it. That’s we thought too. But the Everex StepNote NC1500, available at Wall-Mart for $498 (via NY Times), has a good ‘heart’, a microprocessor geekly speaking. A VIA C7-M 1.5 GHz processor powers the device and only asks 12 watts of power to run at a normal efficient. For a comparison, an Intel Pentium running at the same speed eats over 40% more energy.

The model is the first of a series VIA is willing to build. The last month, the Taiwanese manufacturer showcased a so-called “carbon-neutral” computer processor called C7-D, that supposed to run at 1.8GHz for 20W. But Intel is pioneering in this direction too, with a pair of chips, one for laptops, one for desktop computers, that require only 27W and 5.5W(!) respectively.
